Paris to the Nile 2018 — Sudan: Leg 12


KHARTOUM, SUDAN: In the morning we went to Omdurman very early to go back to the camel herders who were going to race their camels. When we got there the boy told us they weren’t having an official “race” but were down at the track training the camels. The track is 6 kilometers long and is basically just a set of metal rails to keep the camels contained, with a few openings along the way, as only adult camels do the whole six kilometer race — the younger ones start shorter. Anyway, we spent the morning watching the camels and met some other people there who were also watching the camels, they were military on their day off, who came from the same part of Sudan as the herders and just would come out to watch and it reminded them of home …
