Roadtrip to Woman and Machine New England — July 2019 – part 1

DAY ONE: EN ROUTE TO NEW ENGLAND

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: Heading out towards Orient Point on Long Island’s North Fork there are a lot of farms and vineyards and evidence of LI’s agricultural history, and this old truck with a flag painted on the side caught my eye …

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: Driving past a spot where the land narrows so much that it is only a small strip of road surrounded by water. I had to stop to explore a little bit, and on one side there was a marshy area, with more little strips of land, or maybe even islands, on the horizon. It was interesting looking and a bit wilderness=like, apart from a lady kayaker who seemed to be reading a book in the middle of it all…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: Reaching Orient Point where I would take the ferry to CT, there was a small dirt road that leads to the very tip of Long Island, and as I drove down that way a flock of wild turkeys crossed my path…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: Near the Ferry dock there is a strip of rocky wild beach and the lighthouse in the distance…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: I drove as far to the end of the island as I could along the fisherman’s access route, which took me to the very tip of land. The “edge” of Long Island…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: The “beach” area on around the “edge” was beautiful and a little bit wild looking with a kind of rocky “cape” appearance, and as the sun was low in the sky the light was interesting and depending on the direction everything was either very vibrant or completely monotone. And where the sun reflected directly on the water it was like molten gold…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: Back to the beach to catch my ferry, we loaded up the boat and set off just before sunset. The sun was red but there were heavy clouds in the sky and as it started to go down it completely disappeared into the overcast cloud layer without really giving any spectacular color splash…

North Fork, Long Island, NY — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: There was still a lot of ambient light as we began to cross the sound, passing the light house which clearly still serves as a functioning beacon…

New London, CT — Wednesday, 11 July 2019: The ferry took about an hour to cross the Sound and we arrived to the nighttime lights of New London CT from where I still had about two hours to drive to my lodging for the night…
